Corn Pellet Stoves And The Advantages Of Multi Fuel Pellet Stoves Since the rise in oil prices became a concern around 10 years ago, corn pellet stoves have been a technology some consumer automatically turned to. At first, particularly in the corn belt of the US, its easy to see why, corn is a readily available and relatively affordable resource which can be used as a fuel. It gave consumers a sense of supporting American farmers and kicking the habit of foreign oil. Though these factors maybe true, using corn as a fuel is not ideal. First as a core food substance burning food for energy is a morally questionable procedure, as it does lead to rising the price of food as it becomes priced as a fuel substance. A good example of this is how corn it used to produce liquid ethanol. This made the price of corn skyrocket, and this meant many people on very low incomes around the world struggled to eat. Low fuel prices at the cost of global famine is not something we should support. |

Wood Fuel Pellets And Multi Fuel Pellets A Carbon Neutral Fuel However, its not just about using the corn its self as a fuel, what about the corn cobs and stalks which are seen as a waste product. The cobs and the stalks can be compressed into pellet form, and used in pellet stoves. This way the corn is only used as a food product, and the price is kept relative to other foods. The farmer can then generate an additional income processing the waste into fuel pellets, and consumers still get a cheap locally produced fuel product. This is a much better solution, as it keeps food and fuel separate and the farmer can generate more income from one crop then sending corn for fuel. Advantages and Disadvantages Of Using Wood and Multi Fuel Pellets One point that it is important to recognise is that not all fuel pellets burn the same. For example with the pellets from corn cobs and stalks you will get more ash than burning wood pellets, meaning more regular cleaning is required. |

Factors To Consider When Purchasing A Multi Fuel Pellet Stove As I have mentioned above there are many different types of pellet fuel and many different types of pellet stoves on the market today, therefore before you purchase a specific pellet stove you will need to look at many different factors so that you know you are purchasing the best pellet stove for your needs. Firstly what fuel do you intend on burning? You could decide that you are solely going to burn premium wood pellets or are you going to go for a pellet stove that can burn many different types of fuel. As I have said early purchasing a pellet stove that can only burn one type of fuel might not be the best investment as you are then reliant on that fuel source and prices might go up. Another thing to consider is the area you are trying to heat. You will need to make sure that whatever pellet stove you purchase it has a big enough kW maximum heat output to heat that particular area. Something not to be overlooked is the amount of maintenance different types of pellet stoves will need. To help you through the decision process we have developed the following wood pellet stove guide. |
