Green Energy Companies and Wood Pellet Stoves and Boilers Over the last decade there has been a rapid growth in 'green energy companies'. In terms of the home heating market, one of the fastest sectors is the pellet stove and boiler market. Where pellet stoves and boilers really started to take off was Sweden. In Sweden due to their huge forest reserves, timber processing is very common, and therefore there is a lot of waste produced from timbre processing. This waste sawdust is mainly from trees such as pine, spruce and oak, and these wood resources burn very well, however not as sawdust. To make a fuel from these resources green energy companies started up and began to collect the sawdust and process it into wood fuel pellets. |

Green Energy Companies and Wood Pellet Stoves and Boilers Wood fuel pellets look very much like animal feed, and the reason it simple, the process is very similar. The sawdust is collected and first the moisture content is checked. If there is more than 15% moisture, then the sawdust must be dried. After or before drying, the sawdust will go through a hammer mill. The hammer mill will make sure that the sawdust is of a uniform particle size for the pellet mill. A uniform part size of sawdust helps to produce uniform quality wood pellets. It's due to even heat penetration and compression. In the pellet mill the sawdust is exposed to huge amounts of heat and pressure provided by a series of rollers compressing the sawdust through a die. When the pellets come through the die they are very hot, and must cool before they can be used or stored. |

Green Energy Companies and Wood Pellet Stoves and Boilers As well as a number of new green energy companies setting up to make wood pellets, there is a huge number of pellet stove and boiler manufacturers and re-sellers. While wood pellets can be used in a basic solid fuel stove, this is not really taking advantage the key attributes of the fuel. Fuel pellets have a uniform size, shape and density, and they flow liquid a liquid. This means with a hopper and computer controlled auger a stove can maintain a constant temperature automatically. Due to the increased energy density of the fuel pellets, it also means that one hopper can last several days or even a week. To increase capacity a large external hopper can be fitted. This will mean that the stove can demand more fuel from the external hopper to fill up the internal hopper. So with one delivery you can be setup with enough wood pellets to last a year. |
