NEWS : Avalon Newport Wood Pellet Stove Facts And Specifications

The Newport stove from Avalon is a very compact stove. Two specific features of this unit are a large fire viewing window and a large fuel hopper. The size of the viewing window is important. Firstly it lets more heat and light into the room, and gives the ability to easily see how well combustion is going. The internal hopper of the Avalon can hold 55lbs of pellet fuel, this is above the industry average, however no mention of a hopper extension option that many manufacturers now offer. The Newport can produce up to 26,000 Btu's of heat which is impressive for its size, this equates to heating a space of around 1600 square feet. If the stove is set to its minimum heat setting, on a full hopper of fuel the stove can run for around 50 hours. The stove has automatic and manual functions, with an inbuilt digital thermostat. The internal fire starter can be set to start the stove a pre-set times to meet your individual heating demands.

The blow fan which feeds the fire with air, also helps to keep the glass clean and clear. The convection heater then circulates the hot air around the room. The official EPA efficiency rating of the Avalon stove is 82%. The Newport is a steel fabricated stove, and comes with a series of options for the appearance of the stove. The door can either be black, 24k gold or brushed nickel finish. One of the more unique features of the Avalon Newport is the remote control.

One of the questionable areas of the stove are the type of burn pot used. Avalon choose to opt for a drop down system, where the pellets are fed from above and fall into the burn pot. The only means of ash removal is from the combustion fan, and this type of ash removal is very primitive, and not always successful. Generally for burning premium grade wood pellet fuels which produce only around 0.5% this is not a problem, however on some occasions the ash content will exceed this level and this is where issues arise from ash build up.

How Purchasing More Fuel Flexible Wood Pellet Stoves Really Matters

Lets presume for the moment, when you purchase your pellet stove, you only wish to burn the premium wood pellet fuel that everyone else uses. That's fine while the supply is sufficient and prices are reasonable, but what about when demand increases and prices rise. Well, when that happens you want options, and only through purchasing a fuel flexible pellet stove will you have options. The point here is even if you only intend to ever burn premium wood pellets, having a stove which can burn other fuels is a back up and a much safer heating option.
