NEWS : Austrian EvoTherm Wood Pellet Boilers Now Sold In Catskill

Paul Brown and his wife Ruth have started up a new business in Catskill promoting and distributing EvoTherm wood pellet boilers. They now have a demonstration trailer ready to show the wood boilers to potential customers. By the end of December 2010, they wish to have 30 homes within the Hudson Valley area installed with EvoTherm wood boilers which can be used as demonstration units. They also hope to generate local jobs fabricating and assembling the wood pellet boilers. Paul Brown explains that he first saw wood chip/wood pellet boilers over ten years ago in Switzerland. The EvoTherm boilers start at 70,000 Btu's up to the largest unit that produces 1,500,000 Btu's. Mr Browns states the boilers cost around $15,000, with a payback period of around 5-6 years, with the life of the wood pellet boiler of about 20 years. The smaller boilers will used around three to four tonnes of wood pellets in winter.

No more electricity to run the boilers is required compared to oil systems, and the EvoTherm units have an efficiency rating of 93%. Due to this high efficiency the boiler emits no smoke, and the ash draw only needs to be emptied once a week. The Browns are working hard with their state representatives to get the boilers through the required official standards. They are also exploring the principle of developing more district heat systems, as they have seen in Switzerland, on large boiler providing the total heating requirements for a village. Mr Brown who was previously a computer programmer, started his first business in 96 as an internet service provider. They now have a construction equipment rental service, and they will operate their new wood boiler business from the same location. Mr Brown explains that as his rental business substantially slows during the winter months, he was looking for an alternative business. He states that he felt it was the right time to bring the EvoTherm wood boilers to the United States, and to run along side his equipment rental service.

The Abilities of Wood Pellet Boilers and Different Grades of Fuel Pellets

A common misconception by many consumers is that there a a wide range of differences in abilities of different makes and models of wood pellet boiler which will directly effect how well the boiler can burn fuel pellets of different grades and qualities. Purchasing a wood pellet boiler with a wider range of abilities to cope with different grades of fuel pellets is very important, as firstly a wood pellet boiler is a long term investment and secondly you obviously want the pellet boiler to run with as little complications as possible. These abilities in terms of fuel tolerance mainly focus around the pellet feed system and combustion zone. All wood pellet boilers are designed to burn premium grade pellet fuel, which is only produced from very selective wood residue to produce an ash content as low as possible. This fuel is very appealing to consumers as it requests the least amount of maintenance, however as it is also the highest in demand and the resources are limited it is susceptible to supply issues and price instability. Purchasing more fuel flexible boilers makes financial sense.
