Paper Fuel Pellets For Your Pellet Stove? Yes Its Possible There are a huge range of possibilities that pellet fuel can present us with. The three key issues we need to address in society are climate change, energy independence and reducing waste. Potentially fuel pellets can provide an answer to all three of these issues. While paper fuel pellets cannot be the complete answer, they can be part of our solution. In terms of the pellet production process making paper/cardboard pellets is fairly easy. The only real issue it creates is when milling the paper/cardboard ready for the pellet mill it goes very fluffy, which can be hard to deal with. However by adding a small amount of water this can resolve this issue, so what do paper pellets burn like? |

How Do Paper Pellets Burn In Comparison To Wood Pellets? You will always find that paper pellets do not burn as well as wood pellets. Paper pellets will produce slightly less heat and a higher percentage of ash. However for the consumer the advantages of been able to burn paper pellets is you are helping to address the issues raised above and you are also using a lot cheaper fuel than wood pellets. Paper pellets are also an excellent candidate for a locally produced fuel, reducing transportation. All communities have a lot of paper and cardboard waste which could be processed into fuel pellets locally. These paper fuel pellets could be used in basic log stoves with the help of a pellet basket. They could also be used in large scale boilers. They can potentially be used in small home pellet stoves and boilers in some cases. |

Why Only A Few Wood Pellet Stoves Can Use Paper Pellets As described paper fuel pellets will produce more ash than wood pellets. The percentage can be around 5%, which is 4% more than most premium wood pellets. Even if the consumer is happy to deal with the increased ash, their pellet stove/boiler may not be. It all depends on the approach of the pellet burner manufacturer, do they feel premium wood pellets are the only pellet fuel? This is an approach adopted by many manufacturers. They feel their consumers do not demand a multi-fuel stove and that the market does not produce enough pellet fuel alternatives. The manufacturers in general also prefer this approach as it reduces the production costs of their products. The can get away with using smaller motors and lower quality thinner steals in their wood pellet stoves. |
