The Renewable Heat Incentive And Installing Pellet Burners In the UK as an attempt to boost the renewable heat industry the government has recently just released the Renewable Heat Incentive. The idea of the scheme is to boost the amount of heat that is generated from renewable such as wood and biomass from the current 1% up to rear 12% before 2020. The UK government has entered into a legally binding agreement with the European Union that is must produce 20% of its energy from green renewable sources. If the UK does no reach this target by 2020 effectively the UK will be fined, and continually fined by the EU until they have reached the required 20%. Therefore the Renewable Heat Incentive is part of this objective to lower carbon output. |

So What Is The Renewable Heat Incentive And The Benefits? This is one of the most ambitious and costly schemes of its kind anywhere in the world. At a time of financial hardship many have questioned the validity of the scheme. For instance the original idea was to generate the required funds from taxation on oil, gas and coal sales however this has now been dropped. The money will now come from general taxation, obviously from the huge pressure placed on the government from the fossil fuels industry. Basically the government will pay the fuel bills of people who install a renewable source of heat, for example a pellet stove or boiler. The commitment is for 20 years from the purchase of the pellet stove or boiler. How much you get paid depends on your individual heat requirements and KW rating of the appliance. |

A Delay In Domestic Support In The Renewable Heat Incentive Original before the final details of the scheme were announced, the renewable heat incentive was supposed to cover both the domestic, private and public business sectors. However, the government has decided to postpone the introduction of the scheme to the public up until 2012. This is a let down to many people and the pellet stove and boiler industry who have been waiting for this scheme. This could backfire on the government as the longer they leave it the more pellet stove manufactures and retailer could go under. How effect and how well managed the renewable heat incentive will be is a big unknown. However it is a big step in the right direction to support renewable energy. Renewable energy from wood and biomass is not only a 'green' choice, but its also there to help start a new economy and actually develop some practical jobs. |
