Wood Pellet Stoves and The Price of Gas Will Rise Further Recently the UK public heard that gas suppliers are going to raise the price of gas by a massive 20%. This will hit consumers hard as the UK economy has stalled and recovery is far from certain. This increase in the cost of gas is expected to cost the average UK home an additional £200 a year. This increase will also be seen in other countries all around the world as various world issues create instability. The UK government is however trying to encourage alternatives such as wood pellet stoves with the renewable heat incentive which will be launched to the public in 2012. However how well this scheme is run will influence its success and the growth of wood pellet stoves. |

Wood Pellet Stoves Can Provide A Viable Alternative To Gas There are various renewable energy technologies which are promoted to replace fossil fuel heating from oil and gas, and wood pellet stoves are just one. However the difference between pellet fuels and other systems such as solar thermal and geothermal is that a pellet stove is the only really option for cold climates. Solar thermal and geothermal can provide some heat, however they are not sufficient to meet the heat demands of homes in mild to cold climates. Due to the efficiency and the high heat value of pellets even a small pellet stove can provide a generous amount of heat for the average home. For larger properties a pellet boiler and central heating system maybe more appropriate. The range of fuels you can use in your pellet burner does vary significantly. |

Wood Pellet Stoves and The Type Of Pellet Fuel You Can Use Wood pellets are obviously your first thought when it comes to what fuel you can use in your pellet stove or boiler, however this is just one type of pellet fuel. In the west the wood pellet hold practically all the pellet fuel market share currently, however in other parts of the world a much larger range of biomass materials are used. Agricultural wastes are a very popular material to make fuel pellets, for instance in India pellets made from bagasse and corn stalks are used in cooking stoves to remove the need for low income families to have to pay high gas prices to cook their food. As the timbre industry is the driving force behind the pellet plants in the west, there currently is not that much focus on other fuel pellets. However this will have to change as the market out grows the supply of wood waste, therefore you need a pellet stove that can burn this other pellets. |
